10 Reasons to Buy a LCD TV

Plasma, rear projection HDTV, LCD—How do you know which one modern television technology to invest in? Well, if we had to choose between the three different television formats, we would buy a LCD TV. There are so many benefits in owning this type of television, the choice for us would be simple to make.
The Different Formats
First of all, it is important to understand what the difference is between the three main formats of television before you go out and buy a LCD TV.

-- Plasma TVs heavily rely on the fluorescent light bulb. A plasma flat screen display consists of cells. Inside each cell are two glass panels separated by a narrow gap. These gaps are injected with neon-xenon gas and sealed in plasma form. The gas is electrically charged when the plasma TV set is in use. The gas strikes red, green, and blue phosphors. This is what creates the TV image.

-- Rear Projection HDTV Rear projection TVs use phosphors to generate light. This means they can be subject to burn-in, while LCD TVs are not. (If a static image—a station logo or a text banner—is left on the screen for a long time, burn-in can occur. The burn-in image will not completely disappear when the image changes. This can last the lifetime of the TV.) In any case, rear projection TVs are made very large. We are talking 50 inches and up.

-- LCD TVs consist of primarily two transparent, glass-like materials, which are polarized, and “glued” together. One of these plates is coated with a polymer that holds the individual liquid crystals. Electric current is then passed through individual crystals. This allows the crystals to pass or block light to create images. Unlike Plasma TVs, an external light source is needed. Most LCD manufacturers do not make LCD TVs in sizes larger than 40 inches. That is why a 42” LCD TV is considered a very large LCD TV. However, Toshiba makes a 61” LCD TV and Sharp makes a 65” LCD TV.

As mentioned before, we believe that if you buy a LCD TV, you will be very satisfied with your purchase. Here is why.

2). CRT and plasma TVs give off decent amounts of radiation. LCD TVs emit no radiation whatsoever.

3). When viewing an image on a LCD TV, the image will always remains stable, therefore text is easy to read and causes less eyestrain. (If you work a lot of a LCD TV/monitor, this alone is reason enough to by a LCD TV.)

4). LCD TVs come in more sizes than any other flat-panel television sets.

5). When you buy a LCD TV, there is no professional installation required. You can watch your brand-new TV immediately out of the box, provided a TV tuner is included.

6). Unlike plasma and conventional televisions, LCD TVs are not susceptible to burn-in.

7). Unlike conventional televisions, LCD TV’s panel does not curve or have geometric distortion.

8). LCD TVs are relatively lightweight. This means that when you buy a LCD TV, you can easily mount it to the wall to save even more space in your home. Just ask a friend to assist you. Trust us, it will be much easier that way.

9). LCD TVs are flat panel, unlike bulky CRT TVs. They take up much less room and look great in any area of the house.

10). LCD TVs have a very long shelf life. LCD TVs last around 25 to 40 years, while plasma only lasts around 13 years.

If you are still undecided as to which television format to purchase, conduct some more research on the Web. Or, visit a retail electronic store, such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, or MyerEmco to speak with a customer service representative. Since they work with these products on a regular basis, they can offer you their opinions and suggestions. Different strokes for different folks. But, they may suggest that you buy a LCD TV, too!
